Cleaning and Care Instructions for Hammocks, Swings and Stands.

So how do you care for your outdoor products?

Cotton rope or fabric: It can be washed using mild detergent, a soft scrub and a garden hose. Keep the wood out of the water as much as possible. Let soak in the bath or a children’s pool if needed. Let air dry and do not hang so that the cotton does not stretch. It is important to keep cotton clean as it is a very fragile material. Use our rope cleaner and protectant for best results, CLPR2.

Polyester rope: Follow the same instruction as for cotton, except that you can use Oxy Clean instead of detergent. On our rope furniture, for better result s, you can take the rope apart from the frame. Important: always insert a rope inside the end loop before sliding out of the lower and upper bar so that the rope do not untwist themselves. You will need to take your chair, swing or rocker apart and must feel comfortable doing it.

Sunbrella and dyed acrylic fabric: They can be washed using mild detergent, a soft scrub and a garden hose. It is important to keep these fabrics clean. They are mildew resistant, but the dirt that can accumulate on them will mildew.

DuraCord rope, fabric and rugs: Amazingly enough, this fabric can be washed using bleach water. Cleaning is as simple as washing briskly with mild soapy water and rinsing with a garden hose.

Rope furniture: Follow the instructions for the polyester rope. For the wood, undo your item as much as possible and sand with regular sand paper (100 or 150). Varnish the wood with marine grade polyurethane gloss or high gloss varnish. Give 2 coats for best results. Use new bolts and screws for a cleaner look (readily available at your locale hardware store).

Metal stands: Our steel stands are powder coated (except Jobek’s) and should resist rust as much as possible. Since they are powder coated, we cannot sell touch up paint. To repaint the stand, simply sand every surface and apply rust resistant spray paint. Put two coats for better results. Replacement end plugs and chains are available here.

Mayan or Brazilian hammocks: The most comfortable but also the hardest to clean. Tie both ends together to avoid entangling the hammock. Using mild soap, wash in the sink like delicates and hand rinse. Let air dry on a flat surface.

Cypress wood: Cypress weathers to a pewter gray color overtime. This wood also contains a natural oil and is therefore not varnish. To restore your stand, lightly sand the wood and apply 1-2 coats of boiled linseed oil. This will nourish the wood and restore it’s original oil. If you really want, you can also varnish your stand with regular marine grade polyurethane gloss or high gloss varnish.
